NUCLEAR
FUEL CYCLE

As of January 1, 2020, there were 445 power units of nuclear power plants operating in different countries of the world, which produced about 10% of the electricity consumed in the world.

From the 445 power units of the NPPs:

  • there are 300 units with PWR type reactors.

At present time 54 power units are under construction.

INDUSTRY RESOURCES

Over 50 years
of operation with current open cycle strategy

Modern nuclear industry requires about 70 thousand tons of natural uranium annually. According to the optimistic forecasts of experts, the uranium demand up to 2035 could grow by more than 50% from the current.

In according with IAEA-OECD Red Book there are about 7 millions tons of Uranium available for recovery in the World.

INDUSTRY PROBLEMS

Current nuclear industry experiences a bunch of unsolved problems

Risk of proliferation of the materials for nuclear weapon

Huge amount of natural resources needed for nuclear fuel production

Tremendous increase in level of radioactivity after nuclear fuel use in Nuclear Power Plant Units

Substantial amount of depleted uranium after nuclear fuel production
